JML Contractors is proud to reveal the successful completion of a huge solar project at Silksworth Ski Centre, located in Sunderland.
Our engineers have been working on this project since June 2025 and was successfully commissioned in October 2025.
This leisure centre is very popular within the community, so therefore was consuming large amounts of energy. By installing a commercial solar PV system, the centre can now power most of its daily operations with clean and renewable energy.
Ensuring the facility has reduced energy bills, cut carbon emissions, and revolutionise the way in renewable energy.
The project began with one of our most valued clients- Everyone Active asking for a detailed solar panel quote for two leisure centres in Sunderland. We took this to HDM Solar, who assisted us with the supplying of materials. Making sure to count every panel and screw, in turn ensuring a smooth run of the process. Intricate roof plans were created for optimal solar energy performance.
JML Contractors efficiently managed the project, everything from creating roof designs to ensure optimal amount of panels are installed. Hiring equipment for engineers to work safely. Carrying out structural assessments thus making sure the roof was fully prepared for the new PV system. All with minimal disturbance to the visitors. Our engineers worked tirelessly to ensure the project went according to plan and proved exceptional work throughout.
As soon as the project was commissioned the results were immediately effective, coming in instantly. Generating renewable power for years to come.
By taking this step, Everyone Active and Sunderland Leisure Centre are setting a strong example for other organisations across the North East. Their commitment to renewable energy demonstrates true leadership in sustainability, aligning perfectly with Sunderland City Council’s ambitious carbon reduction and Net Zero goals.
This solar installation is the latest milestone in Everyone Active’s ongoing efforts to offset emissions and operate more responsibly, ensuring that local facilities continue to benefit the community while minimising their environmental impact.
The result is a leisure centre that’s not only reducing its running costs but also making a visible commitment to a cleaner, brighter future for Sunderland.
More predictable and lower energy bills: Solar panels generate free, clean electricity during the day, helping to stabilise your costs and reduce your reliance on the grid.
Long-term protection against rising energy prices: Electricity costs have been unpredictable in recent years, but solar gives you independence and financial certainty for decades to come.
A significant reduction in your carbon footprint: Each kilowatt of solar energy generated means less carbon released into the atmosphere a direct contribution to tackling climate change.
There are some major advantages to investing in solar power for your business and the Sunderland Leisure Centre project is a perfect example of what’s possible.
Switching to solar means more than just saving money. It’s about taking control of your energy future, making your operations more sustainable, and showing leadership within your community.

An air source heat pump takes heat from the air outside and uses it to warm your home. It works a bit like a fridge in reverse. A refrigerant absorbs outdoor heat, which is then compressed and transferred indoors. This heat can be used for central heating, underfloor systems or hot water tanks.
Choosing an electrical installation contractor involves more than just basic wiring knowledge. Whether hiring a domestic electrician for your home, a commercial electrician for your business or an industrial electrician for larger facilities, verifying specific certifications is essential.
